Make The Road Nevada Responds to Report of Over 4,600 Deaths in Puerto Rico After Hurricane Maria
Las Vegas, NV – Hurricane Maria shows a death toll of 4,600 according to a new report. This hurricane has shown to be the deadliest natural disaster on US soil, and one that until this day continues to be ignored by the federal government. In response to the failure to respond to this catastrophe, Make The Road Nevada released the following statement from Margarita Rebollal, Puerto Rican member leader of Make The Road Nevada.
“Hurricane Maria was a natural disaster worsen by the man-made one that followed The aftermath of the hurricane forced many Puerto Ricans to flee their homes where there most essential resources are non existent. In Las Vegas we created events to fundraise for Puerto Rico and not one politician attended nor has shown support the community. The response from the government to the Puerto Rican community has been poor and has caused many deaths that could have been prevented. As a result, from the crisis on the Island, many families are arriving to Nevada, as we welcome them, we also stand alongside these families until they receive the respect they deserve and until policies are put in place to help our fellow Americans in the island.”
Make the Road Nevada calls out the federal government to take actions to rapidly rebuild the Island of Puerto Rico and protect the families affected by the hurricane. As of right now, these families are left vulnerable for the 2018 hurricane season.
