The 287(g) program, one of ICE’s top partnership initiatives, allows a state or local law enforcement entity to enter into a partnership with ICE, under a joint Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), in order to receive delegated authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions.
Many counties in Nevada have entered an agreement with ICE and when people are detained for a traffic violation police officers in Las Vegas, Nye and Lyon county will be able to identify and process them for removal under ICE supervision.
Make the Road Nevada and its members believe that a traffic stop should not result in a detention center that carries out deportation. The system has to change. We know that 287g requests are the priority for immigration agents more than any other in our state and that has to change.
