PROGRAM 287G

The 287(g) program, one of ICE’s top partnership initiatives, allows a state or local law enforcement entity to enter into a partnership with ICE, under a joint Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), in order to receive delegated authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions.

Many counties in Nevada have entered an agreement with ICE and when people are detained for a traffic violation police officers in Las Vegas, Nye and Lyon county will be able to identify and process them for removal under ICE supervision.

Make the Road Nevada and its members believe that a traffic stop should not result in a detention center that carries out deportation. The system has to change. We know that 287g requests are the priority for immigration agents more than any other in our state and that has to change.

Route 91

On October 1st, 2017, our city of lights went through a horrible event. Massive shooting at the Route 91 country music festival left 58 dead and hundreds of others injured. Other than concert goers there was a group of undocumented immigrants working that day at food booths, cleaning restrooms, and behind the stage. Regardless of their status, these people experienced the shooting like every other person that attended the concert. Some are still injured until this day, and all of them have been emotionally scarred for life.

This unfortunate event lead many of the documented victims to apply for a visa U, which is a visa for victims of crime in the United States. Getting to this point was not easy but definitely worth it.
